Dear list members, please circulate this info re "Moisture Master" soaker hoses. If you have more questions, please copy to Mr. Grayson as well as to the list, email provided bellow.
>Dear Mr. Romero,
>Soaker Hoses and Porous Pipe manufactured by Fiskars' Aquapore Division
>does not emit Cadmium nor any other heavy metals into the soil.
>Soaker Hoses and Porous Pipe are made from 65% recycled rubber (derived
>entirely from automobile tires), 35% virgin polyethylene, plus a UV
>element. In the extrusion process, all of the rubber crumb raw materials
>are binded together and fully encapsulated by the polyethylene. Due to
>this manufacturing extrusion process, the rubber is not coming in direct
>contact with the soil, therefore no leaching of any heavy metals into the
>soil occurs. I trust this information addresses your concerns. Thank you.

Dear Mr. Grayson:
Many thanks for your reply.
As mentioned before, I will forward the information you are providing to the organic agriculture specialized electronic forums (BD-Now, SANET and Permaculture) where this concerns were first raised.
If there is any follow up, I will be glad to send you the inquires for your consideration. Alternativelly, you can participate directly by subscribing to the refered mailing lists.
Personally I would like to know the lenght of time and operational conditions during which the polyethylene coating is stable and if your company provides a safe usage life limit consumer information for this type of products.
