Chuck is using deliberately inflammatory language here. These varieties are
engineered to contain a Bt toxin (a peptide) that kills or stunts rootworm
larvae as they feed on the roots. Peptides are labile in the soil, unless
they are bound and sequestered so tightly as not to move.

Are you worried that these peptides will get into your well water? I
believe it can be shown that they will not move or build up in the
environment. I'll try to find out for sure. In any case, this kind of
biological control is preferable from an environmental quality perspective,
to the application of persistent, broad-spectrum, synthetic insecticides to
the soil.
