IATP, SEHN, and CPI/CU announce the availability of comments submitted Jan
7, 2000 to the EUP on the Monsanto application for an Experimental Use
Permit for Cry3Bb transgenic corn, engineered to emit Bt through roots and
root exudates for the management of corn rootworms. The comments raise a
host of critical new questions related to soil health and ecological
impacts that must be answered before this new technology is adopted.

The comments as submitted to the EPA are accessible at:

http://www.biotech-info.net/Corn_EUP.pdf

An electronically enhanced version will be posted in the next few days.

This EUP begins the scientific review and public debate on what is bound
to be the most important and high stakes GMO crop technology moving through
the U.S. regulatory review process in year 2000.
