Executive Director
Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society
The Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society (NSAS) seeks to hire an
Executive Director. NSAS is a nonprofit membership organization that
serves the citizens of Nebraska with networking opportunities and
information about sustainable food and farming systems. Our mission is
to build healthy land, people, communities, and quality of life, for
present and future generations.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Executive Director of the Nebraska Sustainable
Agriculture Society is employed by and responsible to the Board of
Directors. Responsibilities include:
FUNDRAISING
Prepare grant applications and approve grants written by other staff
members.
Manage an annual fundraising campaign and cultivate relationships with
donors.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
Plan, implement, and evaluate sustainable agriculture projects. Current
program areas include farmer networks, community food security, direct
marketing, and sustainable, local food systems.
Develop new program areas and projects with the Board of Directors.
Supervise staff. Evaluate staff performance. Hire staff and consultants
as necessary.
OUTREACH AND COMMUNICATIONS
Build NSAS membership and maintain membership records.
Publish a quarterly newsletter, interim news updates, and a membership
directory.
Plan and organize outreach events including an annual conference, field
days, and workshops.
Promote sustainable agriculture and NSAS through the media. Represent
NSAS to the public.
PLANNING AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Oversee the development and implementation of NSAS plans, goals and
objectives.
Organize an annual planning retreat for the Board of Directors, staff,
and key volunteers.
Support Board operations and attend all Board meetings.
FISCAL MANAGEMENT
Supervise the preparation of an annual budget.
Monitor expenditures. Ensure that grant expenditures meet the terms and
conditions of funders.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience required.
Master,s degree and/or equivalent experience desired. Successful
candidates will have excellent oral and written communication skills,
proven fundraising and grantwriting skills, the ability to work with
farmers, ranchers, and consumers of diverse backgrounds, experience with
and understanding of sustainable food and farming systems, excellent
organizational and planning skills, computer skills, and a good sense of
humor. You must be able to travel and have a vehicle in good operating
condition.
LOCATION: Southeast Nebraska. NSAS has office space in Lincoln, but it
is possible to work out of a home office near Lincoln and Omaha.
COMPENSATION: Minimum $22,000 plus benefits including health insurance.
Salary is negotiable, based on experience. This is a full-time position.
