Agricultural Handbook #8 is a wonderful reference which unfortunately
has not been updated and published in book form. About a year or so ago
I spent a great deal of time proving this to myself because I couldn't
beleive it was true. I finally got a confirmation from somebody at USDA
that the updated data are available via a web site
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl
but that the Handbook will not be updated as a Handbook.
What you get is one food at a time, which you must ask for individually,
rather than in tabular form. It is quite useful for some purposes;
however, due to the complete reformatting, it is not possible to compare
the old versus the new data side by side. If you are a computer
programmer you can download data directly and write a program to maybe
reproduce Handbook #8, but I thought that sounded like a pain to say the
least.
