In the most rural of the farming area I've lived in, people's lives
and those of their animals are very closely intertwined and many
people there readily share these anecdotes (I could tell you quite a
few more, but as stated, they're not particularly relevant to
sustainable agriculture). Do remember that bio-dynamic agriculture
(for one) does mandate a working relationship between both crop and
animal activities, however. There are also cultural as well as
economic elements involved.
