Subject: The Night before Compost
'Twas the night before compost
and all through the pile
all the creatures were stirring
all the aerobic while.
=20
Their feedstocks were layered=20
into the pile with care
=20
In hopes that bacteria soon would grow there.
=20
The moisture was added, till the good stuff was glistening,
to the wrung out sponge dampness (is everyone listening?)
=20
The brown stuff was measured, the green stuff was too
=20
The good C/N ratio for a fine microbe stew
=20
The leaves were piled on, all shredded and humid
While their decomposition anticipatedly loomed
=20
On Acer, On Quercus, On Salix, On Elmus!
Fraxinus and Fagus,On Prunus and Pinus!
=20
So top off your bins, to the top of their walls
=20
And rot away, rot away, to fine humus all!!!
=20
Merry Christmas and Good Composting,
=20
Frank Teuton and family
