I heard this, or a similar idea at the American Seed Trade Association
meetings a couple weeks ago. Use of some code with which consumers could
access on-line information may be less threatening to the food industry
because of the complexity of some of the information. It is not always
clear what is or is not a GM ingredient, or what an appropriate threshold of
content might be. The idea of putting all this complex information right on
the label is scary.
