DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT and INFORMATION SERVICES COORDINATOR
The Organic Farming Research Foundation
The Organic Farming Research Foundation=92s purpose is to foster the=
improvement
and widespread adoption of organic farming practices. Our mission is: to
sponsor
research related to organic farming; to disseminate research results to=
organic
farmers and to growers interested in adopting organic production systems; to
educate the public and decision makers about organic farming issues.
OFRF was founded in 1990 by certified organic farmers to fund organic=
research
and education projects and make that information available to others. Since
that time OFRF has awarded nearly $630,000 in support of 114 separate=
projects.
OFRF employs four full-time staff and is located in Santa Cruz, California.=
We
distribute OFRF=92s Information Bulletin (containing the results of=
OFRF-funded
projects) to 12,000 organic farmers and other supporters, publish a biennial
National Organic Farmers=92 Survey, produce an Organic Business and=
Regulatory
Conference, and maintain a high-profile Policy Program dedicated to=
obtaining a
fair share of all available agricultural research dollars for organic=
growers.
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-deductible organization. Our total budget
will near $650,000 for FY 2000. The Organic Farming Research Foundation is=
the
nation=92s primary non-profit resource for organic production research and
farmgate demographic information.
The Development Assistant and Information Services Coordinator Position
OFRF is offering a full-time staff position as Development Assistant and
Information Services Coordinator. The person who accepts this opportunity=
will
directly assist the Executive Director in all phases of fundraising which=
will
include:
=B7 Writing direct mail appeals.
=B7 Writing high-donor solicitations.
=B7 Prospecting for and developing foundation support.
=B7 Foundation communications including interim and final report
preparation.
=B7 Developing financial instruments in support of OFRF=92s Endowment=
Fund
Campaign.
As Coordinator of Information Services, the person who accepts this=
opportunity
will collaborate with other staff and board members to manage the editing,
design and delivery of OFRF=92s various publications including the=
foundation=92s
newsletter, brochures, special reports and publications. This work will not=
be
limited to print media but will include effective use and development of the
foundation=92s web page and other media. The successful applicant will join=
an
organization of national scope and recognition with an opportunity to stand=
at
the forefront of the organic agriculture movement.
Qualifications
=B7 Excellent communication skills with experience in writing, editing=
and
publishing preferably in both fundraising and information dissemination or
educational settings.
=B7 Extensive history of success in development and fundraising work=
with a
non-profit organization.
=B7 Established management skills for the development and scheduling=
of
various publications and other information delivery tools.
=B7 Ability to coordinate the work of contributing editors and=
writers.
=B7 Mastery of IBM-PC instruments for database management, desktop
publishing and HTML editing.
=B7 Basic (preferably extensive) knowledge of and appreciation for=
organic
farming systems and the organic food business.
=B7 Cooperative work style.
=B7 Willingness to travel.
=B7 Sense of humor.
Compensation
The Development Assistant/Information Services Coordinator position is a
full-time position and includes vacation and health benefits. A job share is
possible. The person who accepts this position will work out of the OFRF=
office
located in Santa Cruz, California. Starting salary is $37,000-$40,000=
depending
upon previous experience.=20
