Since we opened in September, smallfarms.com, the marketing web site
that features the best in small farm and ranch foods has had its first
tune-up.
HOGS AND CATTLE have been added to our list of products. This was a
major omission on my part and I apologize to the farmers who raise
livestock. Talk with Jay and Bill Engle who grow hogs on the ground in
Missouri about how they may ship directly to you.
FARMERS AND RANCHERS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE A DRAFT COPY of their new farm
listings before submitting a final copy to us. This feature allows
farmers to enter a description of their products and how the products
are sold exactly AS THE FARMER WANTS IT. It’s our version of a farmer’s
computer game!
FOR COMPUTER JUNKIES and usability freaks, Rob the web master, has
introduced a new mode of searching the contents of smallfarms.com. I
understand that the new search feature will allow for more EFFECTIVE
SEARCHES OF SMALL FARM PRODUCTS. He tells me that it will be especially
useful in the future AS THE SITE GROWS.
CANADIAN FARMERS AND CONSUMERS have made very persuasive requests for
inclusion in our organic, conventional, Bd, family, small farmer
marketing venture. We are pleased to announce a CANADIAN SECTION on the
products page of smallfarms.com. A special welcome to grape grower
Laura Sabourin at Feast of Fields Organic Vineyard & Farm, Ontario.
SHOPPERS AND FARMERS are being directed to smallfarms.com by the tens
of thousands thanks to LINKS, ARTICLES, AND ANNOUNCEMENTS about us from
folks like the Institute for Agriculture & Trade Policy who are
protecting our good small farmer name (http://www.iatp.org/), and THE
SUSTAINABLE FARMING CONNECTION
(http://metalab.unc.edu/farming-connection/), among the finest
sustainable agriculture web sites on the internet. Both are dynamic in
the sense of timeliness and should be visited often.
FREE SMALL FARM AND RANCH LISTING are still available in most states.
See our home page for details!
Finally, in behalf of small farmers and ranchers, I want to thank THE
NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, PRIVATE WEB SITES AND THEIR OWNERS for linking
to smallfarms.com. I appreciate your understanding our desire to keep A
TIGHT FOCUS ON SMALL FARMERS MARKETING their products without the
distraction of cookies, outside links, and advertising. You know who
you are and I am truly grateful for your SENSE OF COMMUNITY and
unselfishness. Without you, this small farmer driven upstart web site
would not have the benefit of TENS OF THOUSANDS OF HITS A MONTH.
Thanks.
