Perhaps Ms. Andre is unfamiliar with internet discussion groups, but I
believe that her public renouncement of Ms. Wigget is extremely
unprofessional and draconian. In terms of the appropriate and
professional use of the internet, I feel that Ms. Andre as a spokes
person has acted unprofessionally in her public denouncement. As far as
the fostering of free speech and dissemination of information, NAL has
acted in the opposite manner.
How did NAL seek to limit the spread of their renouncement or to target
their response to the appropriate parties? The posting was picked up and
posted to at least one non-related news and discussion group to further
discredit Ms Wigget with her peers. Ms. Andre should apologize for the
inappropriate use of the internet to chastise a former employee. If her
purpose was to state NAL's policy, then that could have been
accomplished without naming names.
I believe that since Ms. Wigget received a public denouncement and that
her account was cancelled preventing her from responding to that
denouncement, that she should be given the opportunity to publicly
respond in this discussion group, if she is so interested.
I never associated Ms. Wiggets comments with an institution, rather
those comment came from an individual. The response from Acting Director
Andre reflects very poorly on NAL and brings into question how free the
free flow of objective information is from this government agency.
