Hello !
I'm Thomas, from France.
I'm new to this list so I post a short introduction :
I'm an agronomist, working as a civil servant in northern
France.
Sustainable agriculture is a big issue on this side of
the Atlantic:
-we are facing the post-BSE syndrom, and recently, we had a
major crisis in poultry, linked with dioxine.
-there's more and more concern about GMOs (should there be
a moratorium, are there any environmental/health
risks...etc), and public awareness is growing fastly.
-market for organic farming products is exploding.
The EU is launching a seven years program for
agriculture. It supports sustainable practices, and
sustainability is now part of every international
negotiation, including WTO millenium round.
Thought it would be interesting to read first-hand
comments on sustainable production systems, and debates
going on in this field in the US...
For now I found all I read from you all really
interesting.
