Anita,
If you are willing to consider multiple reasons for free range
animal production, which there are , go at the
presentation(problem/argument?) in steps. If your friend is becoming
conversant with ecology, start there. Try all the articles on the
environmental damage and contamination caused by the hurricanes and
heavy rains in the southeast this summer. Then, check the archives and
try searches on the economic blackmail that goes on between the chicken
buyers and the persons who are contracted to raise them. Also do a
history search for an incident that happened here in Texas a few years
back. I don't remember the details, but it had something to do with Bo
Pilgrim(sp?) of Pilgrim's Pride and (attempted?) gifts of money to our
state legislators. Seems as how I remember that there just happened to
be some bill due before them that would affect him. I haven't any meat
processing plants since elementry school(40+ years ago), so I can't
specifically confirm that conditions really aren't much better than when
Sinclair Lewis wrote his book exposing the meat packing industry. But,
then I know Big Brother is watching out for us(we need some way to
indicate tons of sarcasum in our written language). Lay the ground work
with these and then Hit the health concerns or he may not be able to
believe all the information at once.
