individuals and sustainability is about the long run interests of

And expand on it a bit. John speaks of a sustainable society, not
sustainable agriculture. This is exactly what we need to attain a system
of sust. ag. Agriculture will reflect society, as will the "market." We
cannot have a sustainable system of agriculture in an unsustainable
society. That's where our problem lies.
And subsidies are our apology to agriculture.
