I think the concern here is that corporations are privatizing an essential
common resource and are targeting countries that are (or were until
recently) likely to accede to their control. You can live without
electricity quite easily (the Amish around here (USA) have been doing it
for years). How long can you live without water? You can plant open
pollinated seed that you raise yourself and develop varieties well suited
to your area. But if a large corporation comes to your town and drills a
deep well that dries up your local wells, you must either pay, die or kick
out the corporation.

Klaus had a post sometime back about how the privitization of the common
lands in Great Britian contributed to the starvation that occured there
later. Maybe if he sees this, he could post that again. Mike Miller
