Organic and nutrition-reply

Hi Ted, Allan and others:

Don’t worry about it. We just go out flanked, out numbered and out
marketed. It happens and it’ll happen again. Remember Betamax, and 8
track tapes? Perhaps the best example is Larry Ellison and Oracle,
Corp. Ellison may not have had the best software system for IBMs, but
he out market and out sold his competition.

We still have the advantage of being the best. A marketing person at
USDA recently told me tongue in cheek about “shamelessly promoting.”
Let’s take advantage of our opportunties to shamelessly market and
promote sustainable, organic, small farm products. This is a new trick
for most of us whose responsibilities call for us to be on the farm, in
the lab, or validating research findings.

I’m advocating telling customers, “Our cultivation systems and products
are the best available. WE ARE the sustainable, organic, safe, small
family farm community of producers.” Make the statements first, then
present data to back our claims, and not accumulating data to come to a
conclusion. This isn’t scientific, it’s marketing.
