Anita,

You were right when you said, "I honestly did pick up a
Readers Digest and saw an article of Avery's, and I thought it was
much more damaging than having it show up in other sources because RD
goes out to like the entire planet and reaches all manner of people,
many of whom vote, and most of whom I would guess don't look up these
sorts of facts even if they know how to use the internet. I'm sure
there are plenty of well-meaning and reasonable people who enter this
sort of stuff into their mental fact files as truth just because few
of us have the time or inclination to personally research all the
information out in the world."

In my class last night, someone (an older adult) asked about using
manure on food crops, since this causes contamination by e-coli. Just
about all the students perked up and said, "Yeah!" indicating that they
had heard this fact.

But, thanks to all the info posted by sanetters, our hero,
Superprofessor, was able to tell them about Mr. Avery and his
misinformation campaign. I was also able to explain the connection
between grain fed beef and e-coli. Thanks to all you out there who
shared your info!

And Misha- thanks for keeping us straight. I refer to the ancient
advice, "Resist not evil." Organic has been attacked for the past 30
years that I've been practicing it. At first, we were defensive and
tried to prove the validity of the system. We now need to ignore the
detractors and spend our energies gettin' on wid bidness.

But, Anita you do have a point there. Maybe what we need is for someone
to write a book like Al Franken's "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot..."
Might I suggest, "Dennis Avery Is a Skinny Little Weasel..." by Anita
Graff. Come on Anita, put that sense of humor and extraordinary
intelligence to good use! Break out of that office and slay the mighty
dragon!

Dang, this super hero stuff is starting to get to me! Anita, forget what
I just said! Remember, we all need to make it through the winter.

Alex
