Thanks to Lawrence F. London, Jr's. forwarded posting on speicies to use in
artificial wetlands created thru permacultural techneques. We recently
created a couple swails and this information will be quite valuable in
species selection of the swale and resulting wetland.

On another note, 'Acres USA' did a very interesting interview of a scientist
studying the insoak capabilities of biologically dead soils vs. boilogically
alive soils about 2 years ago. The results were astounding!

The dead soils were only wet out to a depth of 3 or 4 inces after a severe
plains thunderstorm. Most of the rain ended up in the ditches and rivers
along with its load of silt and soil particles.

The alive soils were able to insoak 1 1/2 inches of rain in the first hour
before runoff began to occur. Pretty imprerssive differences!

IMO the use of high technology, and expoitive agricultural practices around
the world are the leading cause of rampant flooding world wide.

Thanks,
Greg
