Also, foreign meat can be imported into the US and still be sold with a
USDA inspection seal. I've even seen foreign boxed beef at our "local
country meat shop". Its sad what we have reduced agriculture to in this
country.
On a more positive note, Niman Ranch Pork Company's pork has replaced
Smithfields pork in a large health food chain on the east coast. Niman
Ranch gets all of its pork from producers in the midwest who raise humanely
on pasture or deep bedding and never use antibiotics. (Smithfield is the
largest confinement operation in the country. 650,000 sows if their
acquisition of Murphys Family Farm goes through.)
