Precisely, some how the scientific organization (IFOAM) that I was so
excited about back in the early seventies, when it was created, has
been subsumed by the standards setting and marketing interests (these
interests are all to close for proper standards enforcement in every
organization that I am familiar with, please correct me if I missed on this
point Bart). I believe that the Soil Association has gone the same way. I
do not think that marketing can be ignored, indeed it is a critical aspect of
the whole beast but when it absorbs everything else strange things
happen. The profits then must be protected at all costs, humus
management or sustainability be damned.

Bart, my old friend, we are truly cursed to live in these interesting times.

Best,

Ted
