Just thought of a useful application for Genetic Engineering marker genes
in pollution monitoring from large confinement operation. Since each
corporation supplies the feed to their confinement operations, a marker
gene similar to the antibotic marker gene could be added to some component
of the feed that would genetically "tag" the manure from the sites under
that corporation's control. Since each corporation's feed would have a
unique genetic fingerprint, it would be easy to trace the reponsible party
by analysis of the polluted water sample. Mike Miller
