Sanet,
I live in SE PA and our farm received 8.8 inches of rain from Floyd as
well as 50 mph winds. I must say that I was proud of the way my
permanent cover cropping system held up to the deluge. I spent 1.5 hours
yesterday video taping the clean water leaving my fields as well as the
"clay soup" that was leaving my "conventional" neighbors fields. I don't
have hard data, but the total volume also appeared much less then a
similar area of land at my neighbors. Today, I could find no ditches on
my 12-17% sloped fields.
It's so ironic that in the last 12 days we got over 14 inches of rain-
more than all we had since last winter! Now, the next challenge will be
to get 20 acres of processing tomatoes harvested next week.
