well, i don't really think so. Although people on this list, including
myself, are sympathetic to IFOAM and also believe in many of the same
principles, we need to think about addressing the rest of the world. and
you don't catch flies with vinegar. period. so for IFOAM to say that
efforts others have made to be sustainable ( and yes, precision agridulture
and other advances ARE better than what most people do now even if they
are not ideal) are bogus does not really help the situation. It makes
farmers mad, it makes me mad because it is a non problem-solving approach
and in fact it is of the same hard line no deal stance perspective that so
many people take towards implementing a more ecologically based agriculture,
just a stubborn not mind-flexing way of thinking. and i say progress is
progress and if we can make more sustainble practices step by step that is
better than all or nothing, where saving our natural resources are
concerned. Call me a compromiser if you want, but you do not have to
compromise your ideals in order to work within a system to improve it.
