On a more serious note, even from a very, Very, VERY long way away
(many llight years beyond the front wave of our post 1920
electromagnetic emissions), an intelligent, obervant, technical
civilisation would know that there is life on Earth because of the
high-methane distortion in our spectrographic profile.
They wouldn't know whether it was from tepid tundra or burping bovines,
but they'd know there was life of some sort here. Once our
electromagnetic emissions hit them, however, they'd rapidly conclude
that there was no *intelligent* life in the region.
