Calder presents arguments against the greenhouse effect as caused by human
activity in a recent paper, abstract at
http://www.microtech.com.au/daly/calder/calder.htm
Entertaining such views seems sensible to me, given my tendency to doubt
gross popular wisdom. Calder is not arguing a case against energy
conservation, conservation of non-renewable resources. We just have to do
the right things for the right reasons. I suspect that part of the
forcefulness of the argument for human command of greenhouse is its
seductive suggestion that we can control climate if we 'obey'... from which
folks of various persuasion can get a thrill.
And, getting back to the subject, the grass-slavery of suburban society
seems to me one of the most pervasive demands for social conformity and
control of 'nature'. Leave the grass long, and the leaves where they fall,
as I do, and see the beady eyes directed at you, from the gardens of the
disciplined.
