Dear SANET,
Science for pay at the service of corporate politics has reached a new low
with this pathetic piece of propaghanda. The willingness of scientists to
make statements like this is clearly descrediting science in the public
eyes. At one time scientists were believed to be altruistically motivated
by the search for knowledge for the benefit of all. Perhpas it was never
true, but it was an ideal and it kept scientist from this kind of
grovelling to corporate interests. To make such a statement, using
fictional quantities to give a false air of "scientific precision" ("30
times more dangerous") with absolutely no kind of study to back it up is
junk science at it's worst and a disgusting display of subservience to the
basest interests of our society. As a scientist I am ashamed and saddened
and I protest this debasement of our profession.

This and other statements are clearly timed with the bills introduced to
outlaw "plant pests" and other moves--corporate America is clearly on the
warpath against real organic farming. Armed with unethical science, WTO and
Codex Alimentarius and the new Federal organic regulations it will soon me
the case that the only "organic" farmer in America is Monsanto.
