To day, Jose Bove (french farmer from the Confederation farmer movement in
french) was liberated. He was in jail the 16 august. He had participated
with 400 people to the dimanteling a Mac donald restaurant in Millau,
little sity in the south of France. It was a reaction against the sub
taxation of french and european products by USA, after the prohibition of
meat with hormons by European Union. The justice had asked 100 000 USD for
guarantee for the 5 farmers who were in jail. Four farmers were Free. Jose
after few days had refused to pay the guarantee (or the farm movement). It
had created a movement of solidarity in france and abroad. 60 farmers,
activists, intelectuals from USA had sent money very rapidly. The
confederation had received money from a lot of individuals people. All the
newspapers, TV, radios had talken about the problem of GMO, meat with
hormons. Jacques Chirac, president of France had said that France will not
accept GMO and Meat with hormons. A lot of action had been realized in
front and inside mac donald restaurants. There is a debate of the nature of
food, with this action. It had created very good condition for the WTO
mobilization and against GMO.
We think that it would be very interesting to organize an international day
"for the right of the people to feed themslf and on the right to choose
ttheir food" the 16 TH october (during the mobilization week related to WTO
. 12 -18 october) . The 16 th october is in the same time the world food
day (FAO). What do you think of this idea ?
