Sixth Annual Country Living Field Day

The Sixth Annual Country Living Field Day will be held Saturday, September
25, 1999 from 10 am to 5 pm in Augusta, Ohio, in the foothills of the
Appalachians in Eastern Ohio. Joel Salatin will be the capstone speaker
for this event which will feature workshops, short seminars,
demonstrations, farm tours, and exhibits on dozens of alternative,
sustainable, and small-scale agriculture and natural resources topics.

Topics Include: organic farming, growing for restaurants, freshwater fish
farming, ginseng and goldenseal, mushrooms, CSA, forest management,
growing berries, extending the grazing season, solar energy, beekeeping,
managed grazing, beef cattle marketing, goats, pasture raised poultry,
grape production, growing pumpkins and gourds, pasture-raised pork, working
dogs, farming the internet and dozens more!

Five two-hour workshops will be held as follows: Beef Cattle Marketing at
11:30 am, Getting Started in farming at 11:30 am, Getting started in
Beekeeping at 1:30 p.m., Managing Your Woodlot at 2:00 p.m., and Management
Intensive Grazing at 2:30 p.m.

There will also be a large display of rare heritage breed livestock and a
timber frame construction demonstration going on throughout the day.

An extensive children's program is also planned including a Kids Safety
Roundup and a Children's Activity Area. Youth who complete the Kids Safety
Roundup will receive a free t-shirt and water bottle, and all participating
families will receive a free family first aid kit. The Children's Activity
Area will feature agricultural crafts and activities.

All activities at the Country Living Field Day are free and registration is
not required. The field day is sponsored by Ohio State University
Extension and the Small Scale Agriculture Committee.
