many polls have found results along these lines . . . one that is very close
to your question was by the Southern Regional Research Project On
Agriculture and the Environment S-246 . . . a good overview of these results
is in the Council On Agricultural Science and Technology publication on
Consumer Perceptions of Food Safety by Eileen vanRavenswaay . . . i'm not
sure about perceptions of small farmers as sources of information, but many
surveys find that consumers believe that small farmers produce safer food
than large scale farmers
