ladybugs and fruit

Thank you very much, all of you who answered my question about the yellow
ladybugs. Someone kindly pointed me to a web site that has photos of
cucumber beetles. What I have are not cucumber beetles. You mention that
it is doubtful that the ladybugs would or could break into the plums and
blackberries. Right now the wasps are thick on all fruit. It may well be
that the ladybugs are just enjoying a sugary treat after the wasps open the
door for them. My faulty memory tells me we used to have only orange
ladybugs with black dots. Now we have orange and red and yellow ones of
several shades. A lot of people buy packages of ladybugs as predators to
get rid of aphids and mealybugs, and, of course, many of them fly free and
multiply. Thank you all again, I've learned a few things, and am happy to
say that there are no cucumber beetles on any of my cucumbers, summer
squash, or zucchini.
