Paulownia vs kudzu

Lots of young paulownia trees growing in the wild in the New Jersey
Palisades along the Hudson River. They are found down along the banks of
the river as well as on the top of the rock outcrop several hundred feet
above. The huge leaves of the young trees make them very visible. If
Norway Maples are cited to shade out native species, this one must be
so much more worrisome.

Was told that they established a foothold here in the NY Harbor area
because the silk floss of the seed capsules was used as a packing
material in crates coming in from China. Might be anecdotal.

Interestingly enough there are a few adult trees whose bloom I enjoy in
a park on the NY side of the river, and I have not seen seedlings or
young trees in the woodland areas there. Wonder if they are weeded out
by the Parks Dept. as part of their native species initiatives or if
conditions are not as much to the trees liking.
