Julie, I would assume that if the root zone was mulched heavily that it
would sprout anew each year. Top growth w/ definately die back, but the
roots are another story. I think tree is hardy to 20 below...China can
be a cold place too. Try one tree next spring so it will have a good
long seasonto establish. If it sprouts the following year, just take
root cuttings and go for it.
