In San diego, californy....they sell a cultivar of "Empress Tree"
Paulowinia tomentosa var "sumthinorother" at local home depot's.
I have read that it already populates all 50 US States as well.its not
new to the seen by any means.
The tree grows like a weed, can be repeatedly harvested at 5 years w/ a
caliper of foot or more..
sprouts from cut stumps like grass grows....
weight slightly heavier than wet balsawood.....
doesnt change dimension w/ changes in humidity, mills easily(hello
,woodworkers?),,,
lightweight Hardwood classification....
6 dollars a board foot(if you can find it)....
Traditionally used to construct a kind of dowry chest for Japanese
marriage ceremony,
supposedly thousands of years old use in Fareastern culture.
I planted one three yrs ago..wow.At thirteen months, I pushed over the
trunk and broke it to the ground...only
eight feet high prior to my "trimming". It sprouted anew w/ four
shoots(trimmed one off) Two shooots went past 22 feet after eight
months, the third was 24 feet.....It loves fertile sandy deep soil w/
water ,,for this to occur. My tree is planted on a bank of fill dirt.
Grrows very easily from root cuttings.
Start a plantation and make wood moulding, or broker to Japan .
