If you are talking about the speech by the head of USDA, that remark of his about weeds
being the cause of starvation in Africa,---that was a crazy remark. I grew up in that king
of primitive territory, and it certainly not weeds that cause people to starve in Africa.
For years those people cut down the forests for fuel to cook their food. Then when the
forests were gone, the whole system changed--rain patterns, soil degradation/erosion, etc.
Weeds were never a cause of lack of food.
If he said it as a joke, the joke was in very bad taste. Starving is serious business.
