You are invited to join the Seventh Annual
Sustainable
Agriculture and Integrated Pest Management Field
Day,
August 11, 1999, at the Beltsville Agricultural
Research
Center (BARC). This year's focus is on Horticultural
and
Field Crop Sustainable Systems.
The purpose is to exhibit BARC's research programs
and
initiatives for developing sustainable agriculture
systems
that we will need for the 21st century and beyond.
Components of our broad effort on Horticultural and
Field
Crop Systems for use on small farms, including
organic
farms, are aimed at the development of cropping
systems
that increase productivity, enhance the environment,
and
produce more healthful fruits and vegetables while
reducing
fertilizer and pesticide inputs. The use of manure
and
composts as well as other rural and urban
by-products as
soil amendments also will be featured.
Registration and payment for lunch will be at 8
a.m.,
August 11, 1999 at Building 011A. The morning tours
will
start at 8:30, 9:00, and 9:30 and will last about 3
hours.
There will be an hour for lunch and then the
afternoon bus
tour will begin at 12:30 p.m. and last about 2.5
hours.
