I think probably the reason that noone is minding the shop is that we are
all here venting to each other and not out there working to change the
system. I have absolutely no intentions of being derisive or otherwise
critical..but I have noticed a lot of postings lately asking about how did
things get this way and how do big companies and regulators get away with
outrages and the answer really is pretty simple--we let them. Implicitly
yes, but we allow them. Glickman is a politician, he is not a farmer and he
is not a scientist, his is a role of mediation and diplomacy and of course
he is going to say that he believes our system of food security is safe,
can you imagine the panic that would happen if he openly declared that the
usda and fda are allowing the food industry to poison us? Change never comes
quickly. One has to be patient and persistent and most of all active.
