After reading of less toxic to non-toxic pest controls online at
<http://www.invisiblegardener.com/>, I bought the inexpensive book
entitled Natural Pest Control by Andrew Lopez, ''The Invisible
Gardener''. Mr. Lopez has combined many of the ant ingredients, for
example, which I had previously used separately. In addition, he
recommends ''ant motels'' when using ingredients such as boric acid.
Ants can frequent small openings in the motels, but other creatures that
may be harmed by boric acid, cannot. He treats ants well by feeding
them, and ''does them in''.

There is good common sense in this book, too. For example, there are two
ways of sterilizing the soil: one is with heat (like boiling water), the
other is with chemicals (such as chemical fertilizers, herbicides and
other pesticides. Remember, ''cide'' means to kill or cause harm, and
''pests'' can be anything including your children and pets.

It's nice to know that there is a resource directory and guide available
for natural controls and recommendations that avoid toxic, synthetic
chemicals.
