Re: sludge disposal

Fear mongering or not, does anyone really think that sludge "relatively
free of manmade material" is appropriate for fertilizer use? The City of
Chicago and the sludge processing company cannot control what manmade
materials citizens and industry throw in the trash. All manner of nasties
could end up in this "soil amendment." Wasn't the Belgian dioxin poisoning
allegedly caused by someone dumping transformer oil into public vegetable
oil recycling tanks?

We should also be aware that both cities and waste processors are desperate
for places to put sewage sludge now that most landfills are full and no one
wants any new ones. So of course they are very interested in pitching this
material as a great farm product.

If I had a farm I wouldn't use this stuff.
