Howdy, fellow West Virginian.

Regarding your help wanted, I am not your man, but I wish you well.

As for appropriateness of the post, I say it is okay, and it raises a
subject I've been thinking about for a while. That is on-farm senior
volunteers. I don't know tons of farmers, but I have come across two
interesting cases. The first was a guy in vegetable farming in the upper
potomac area, struggling against the odds, and saying that he was surviving
only with the help of a retired friend who just liked farming. The other
case is a farmer who has a friend, retired, I think, who shows up at
critical agricultural times and camps in his mobile home. With his wife, I
think.

The point is that there are lots of ads and inquiries about "internships"
which seem directed mainly at young people who don't know much. It is
entirely appropriate to be looking for volunteers with good will who have
life experience and skills.

Seeing as how the farmer himself might well be regarded as a volunteer,
given limited returns in many cases, the involvement of other volunteers is
fitting enough.

Of course each volunteer would have to go into a situation with eyes open
and prepared to negotiate an acceptable and non-exploitive relationship.
