A common problem encountered with listservs has to do with small changes in
your e-mail address. For example, my e-mail address changed FROM
san@nalusda.gov TO san@nal.usda.gov (add a . before usda). When this
happens, majordomo may not/will not recognize your new address, and you
therefore cannot get off of the list. However, messages sent to the
old address will be automatically forwarded to the new address, so you would
continue to receive messages (and never know there might be a problem).
The second most common problem is related: You receive messages but find
you cannot post to sanet. Again, majordomo does not recognize your (new)
address as a member of the list. You need to have your old address taken
off and
your new address added to the member list. Usually you cannot do this
yourself (see below).
Many such changes are being made to internet services, usually altering the
e-mail address after the @ sign. Ideally, you are told ahead of time to
unsubscribe from lists and resubscribe after the change.
IF your e-mail address has changed subtly, and you find you cannot
unsubscribe from or post to sanet, please send a message to san@nal.usda.gov
listing
* the old e-mail address(es) -- I have had people send me 6 or 8 of them!
* the new address
* whether you are subscribed to the digest or standard format
* the action you are requesting. i.e.:
* unsubscribe the old and resubscribe the new
* unsubscribe only
* getting duplicate copies; unsubscribe this one
You can get a list of subscribers--and find what address you're subscribed
under--by sending a message to:
majordomo@ces.ncsu.edu
In the body of the message type:
who sanet-mg (HARD RETURN HERE)
who sanet-mg-digest
These are actually two separate commands that will be processed by majordomo
IF there is a hard return between them. You could also send them as
separate messages.
