JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: ORGANIZER -- IMMEDIATE OPENING

The National Campaign for Sustainable Agriculture is a diverse network of
over 2000 organizations working collaboratively to shape national policies
to foster a sustainable food and agriculture system -- one that is
economically viable, environmentally sound, socially just, and humane. We
are seeking to hire a full-time Organizer to work on a variety of policy
advocacy activities.

Responsibilities:
-Staff Issue Committees working on issues in the following areas: Family
Farm Income, Rural Development/ Marketing, Minority Farmers and
Farmworkers, Research, Conservation, and Community Food Security.

-Coordinate with leaders who monitor relevant national policy developments

-Initiate grassroots action as needed

-Facilitate collaboration with organizations on relevant Farm Bill (2002)
activities

-Produce action alerts, media advisories, fact sheets, etc... in
collaboration with other groups and assist with other organizational
communications

-Organize Issue-related meetings and assist with other meetings

-Do outreach to varied constituencies and initiate participation in
Campaign activities

Qualifications:
-Experience organizing collaborative efforts of diverse groups on policy
advocacy
-Proven organizational and project management skills
-Strong written and verbal skills, experience writing media advisories
-Ability to coordinate a variety of activities
-Ability to recruit, motivate, and coordinate people of different
backgrounds and interest communities
-Strong diplomatic skills
-Proficiency with word processing and email communications
-Ability to travel and work on weekends as needed for travel
-Knowledge and experience with agriculture and/or environmental policies a
plus
-Knowledge and experience with fundraising a plus
-Commitment to promoting sustainable and socially just farm and food
policies
-Ability to work independently and as a team member
-Minimum commitment through 2002 Farm Bill

Location: Preferable location at our main office in Pine Bush, N.Y. Pine
Bush is a rural community located 75 miles outside of the metropolitan NY
area.

Salary and Benefits: $28,000-$35,000 depending on experience, plus benefits
package, full time with flexible scheduling available.
