Following is an exciting job opportunity at The Center for Environmental
Farming Systems (CEFS) in North Carolina.

The Center for Environmental Farming Systems is dedicated to developing
agricultural systems that are environmentally, economically, and socially
sustainable. Established in 1994 at the North Carolina Department of
Agriculture Cherry Farm near Goldsboro, the Center has over 2,000 acres.
This unique Center is a partnership among North Carolina State University,
North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University, North Carolina
Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, non-governmental
organizations, and other state and federal agencies, farmers and citizens.

The CEFS mission is to provide a site for long-term, large-scale
interdisciplinary research, extension education, and undergraduate/graduate
training and experiential learning opportunities in sustainable farming
systems.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:



THIS IS AN ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPERVISORY POSITION RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING
MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP AT THE CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL FARMING SYSTEMS, A
LARGE AND COMPLEX AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH, DEMONSTRATION, AND TEACHING
FACILITY. THE FACILITY HAS A LARGE DAIRY, BEEF, AND SWINE OPERATION, AS
WELL AS SUSTAINABLE, ORGANIC, CONVENTIONAL AND NO-TILL CROPS OPERATION.
INVOLVES SEVERAL DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF MANAGEMENT, TO INCLUDE THE
DEVELOPMENT, COORDINATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF RESEARCH PROJECTS, AS WELL
AS COLLABORATION BETWEEN ADVISORY GROUPS; RESEARCH PROGRAM MANAGEMENT;
FISCAL BUDGET EXECUTION; PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT; PUBLIC RELATIONS; SAFETY AND
STATION OPERATIONS.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

ABILITY TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH
EMPLOYEES AND OTHERS, INCLUDING FARMERS AND GROWER ORGANIZATIONS; ABILITY
TO DEVELOP PLANS FOR A LONG-RANGE AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM; ABILITY TO
COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY IN BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN FORM. MUST POSSESS A VALID
N.C. DRIVER'S LICENSE. MUST BE WILLING AND ABLE TO OBTAIN WASTE MANAGEMENT
CERTIFICATION AND A PUBLIC PESTICIDE OPERATOR'S LICENSE.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

GRADUATION FROM A FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WITH A MAJOR IN ANIMAL
SCIENCE, CROP SCIENCE, HORTICULTURE SCIENCE, OR A RELATED CURRICULUM AND
THREE YEARS PROGRESSIVE EXPERIENCE IN GENERAL

AGRICULTURAL MANAGEMENT, AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH OR AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION; OR
AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE.
