:
: What are the health results for cattle fed old grain that may have
mycotoxins?
:
: Do these weaken immune system as well as provoke a toxic reaction?
:
: I am studying an otherwise healthy herd of Holsteins that was
hammered by BVD
: Virus type II when exposed at the same time to a mineral/supplement
switch,
: two-year old farm-stored grain ( corn), and cattle brought into the
herd from
: an auction that probably carried the BVD. BVD was diagnosed in 14
dead
: animals and the rest were vaccinated.
There is some missing info here (and just where is Quesoville?)
regarding feed- lots of other potential problems besides the mold
issue.
Effects of mold are going to depend on overall healt of the animals,
the dose/exposure, and the relative adequacy of the ration.
In addition, just vaccinating those that died doesn't mean that there
are not still carriers in the herd.
And what is the Johne's status of the herd.
Finally, what about this herd are you studying?
Sounds like a poorly managed situation from what info you give.
