OFRF HIRES FIRST TECHNICAL PROGRAM COORDINATOR
JANE SOOBY
(Santa Cruz, Ca.) The Board of Directors of the Organic Farming Research
Foundation is pleased to announce that, effective June 1, 1999, Jane Sooby
has assumed the newly created position of Technical Program Coordinator. A
native Californian, Sooby worked the past four years as a research
technician at the University of Nebraska High Plains Ag Lab, a dryland
agriculture research facility in western Nebraska. She was also western
organizer for the Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society. Sooby has
extensive experience working with farmers designing on-farm research
projects and analyzing data. She was also active in the local Nebraska OCIA
chapter, volunteering as both a board and certification committee member.
"Jane is as comfortable in the seed lab as she is on the farm," said Bob
Scowcroft, OFRF's Executive Director. "She's ready to jump right in and
help growers link with researchers to study the most pressing organic
production problems facing us today."
Prior to working in Nebraska, Sooby received her M.S. in agronomy from the
University of Wyoming and her B.S. in biology from New Mexico State
University in Las Cruces.
Some of Sooby's early priorities at OFRF will be: monitor and evaluate
each OFRF grant recipient's research and education project; circulate each
project's results to a national grower audience; help develop projects for
future OFRF and/or other institutional funding support; and monitor
conventional agricultural publications and associations for information on
research projects of interest to organic farmers.
Farmers looking for organic production information or who are interested
in participating in organic research projects can contact Jane at:
