OFRF ANNOUNCES FOURTH BIENNIAL
BUSINESS AND REGULATORY CONFERENCE
The Organic Farming Research Foundation will hold its fourth biennial
business and regulatory conference on the term "organic" August 1-3, 1999
at the Claremont Resort & Spa in Oakland, California. Titled "Organic:
Growing into the 21st Century" this conference will present the latest
technical and strategic information on a broad range of topics critical to
continued expansion of the organic products industry. Of special interest
this year is the impact genetically engineered organisms will have on the
organic products industry. The expected publication of the Revised Organic
Rule in late summer or early fall, consumers' understanding of the term
"organic", and the arrival of venture capital to the organic products
industry will also be covered in great detail.
Some of the confirmed speakers are: Mark Ritchie, The Institute for
Agriculture and Trade Policy; Ed Begley Jr. Actor, Board Member ECO;
Kathleen Merrigan, Administrator, USDA-AMS (pending); Marc Lappé, Center
for Ethics and Toxics; Jesse Singerman, Blooming Prairie; Mathew Patsky,
Adams, Harkness & Hill; Joe Glorfield, Wolavers Organic Ale; Charles
Margulis, Greenpeace; and Katherine DiMatteo, Organic Trade Association.
Another forty well known speakers will join an estimated two hundred
participants in the three day conference.
Conference registration fees have been designed to meet each sector
group's needs. Participants may register under the following categories:
$110 for Sunday only (Business Focus); $160 single day registration for
Monday (Regulatory Focus) or Tuesday (Consumer Focus); $290 for two day
registration, Monday and Tuesday; and $365 for the entire three day
program. Registration for Organic: Growing into the 21st Century includes
access to all panels and workshops as well as receptions, continental
breakfasts and lunches, and an Information and Resource Registration
Packet. Lodging and travel arrangements must be made separately.
