June 17 - 19, 1999 Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Limited-resource farmers are, for the most part, unaware of the
opportunities that are available through Southern SARE and other
sustainable agriculture programs. These farmers generally own less
than 150 acres of land, yet many employ conventional farming practices
and rent additional acreage in hopes of turning a profit. This
inevitably leads to high debt and little or no profit, not to mention
the negative economic and environmental impact on the community.
If limited resource-farmers are to remain part of America's production
agriculture system, they must be able to take advantage of new
research, appropriate technology and information that will make their
land an asset to them and the environment.
SARE is sponsoring this two-day workshop and tour to help educate
limited-resource farmers and technical assistance providers about the
possibilities inherent in employing sustainable agriculture practices
and how SARE can assist them in the effort.
