As thin as sprouts are, radiation will easily penetrate all the tissues,
disrupting every cell, affecting enzyme systems, and probably destroying
much of the food value. At the same time, it is almost sure to break
molecules in a way that they will have ends looking for something to
reattach to. When the chlorine is added, how much is going to attach to the
broken molecules, creating chlorinated compounds of all sorts and of unknown
potential. Not to mention the straight chlorine residual that stays in the
tissues. Thank goodness sprouts are easy to grow at home - I'd rather go
that way than risk the treated ones. The main thing the treatment is going
to kill off is the market for commercial sprouts.
