Check out the funky folks at Gardener's Supply Company in Burlington,
VT:
http://www.gardeners.com/index.html
Go to the COMPOSTING part of their site. GSC has a few compost
thangs, including a few small, beautifully designed composters priced
at around $100. They pay for themselves quickly, and look spiffy.
Or you can build one--check out Jerry Minnich's and Marjorie Hunt's
"Rodale Guide to Composting." I seem to recall a mess of
plans/suggestions for how to build low-cost composters that city
varmints can't colonize.
Better yet, GSC is about a 9-hour drive from where I-95 passes
Newmarket/Head House Square. Take a nice long summer weekend and
drive on up. :^)
