planting peanuts

Is there a peanut farmer out there who can tell me how to plant
peanuts? A doctor once told me commercially available peanuts are
contaminated with mold. He predicted that I could tolerate peanuts if I
grew, processed, and properly stored my own. As I browsed the seed
catalogs this spring, I saw a chance to test his prediction and ordered a
quarter pound of Spanish Type Peanuts. They arrived still in the shells
with no hint as to whether or not I should shell them before planting.
There are 2 or 3 seeds per pod, so they will come up much thicker if I
leave them in the pod. The catalog says to plant them 1 to 2 inches deep
and 6" apart. Can anyone out there elaborate for me?
Also, I would appreciate any hints on how to properly harvest and
store peanuts.
