Floyd,
There are other types of reduced tillage systems--including "zone
till" (where only part of the soil is disturbed, compared to the
full-field tillage with the moldboard plow) and ridge-till. Also, with a
good modern planter, the surface soil does not have to be as beat-up, with
such destruction of soil aggregates, in order to get good soil-seed
contact.
